New Bills Seek to Amend Wire Act to Ban All Online Gambling

Adelson-backed bill formally introduced in House and Senate, though with a very slim chance of successful passage.

  • The bills, which have bipartisan support, would amend the Wire Act of 1961 to include all online gambling except fantasy sports and horse-racing.
  • Earlier this week Texas Governor Rick Perry joined the bandwagon, opposing igaming in spite of the fact that such a ban would infringe on states’ rights—an issue Perry has been known to champion in the past.
  • Earlier this week, the Democratic Governors Association that came out against a ban based on a cut in lottery revenue and an infringement on states’ rights.
  • Though neither side will openly admit it, the chance that poker receives a carve out as part of a compromise exist.

PokerHost Leaves Merge for the Equity Poker Network

Merge Gaming loses a skin which may take as much as 20% of the network’s cash game traffic when it leaves.

  • Merge Gaming poker room PokerHost has announced that it will be leaving the network and joining the Equity Poker Network (EPN) within the next couple of weeks.
  • Players should be able to continue with PokerHost even if they have another account on a different EPN skin.
  • At the moment, there is no information on how the transfer of VIP points and statuses will be managed.

  • The British Daily Telegraph newspaper has carried an article of poker advice from PokerStars Pro Alexander “Kanu7” Millar.

The state monopoly means that the figures relate entirely to the size of the “gray” market. The annual report to the Norwegian Lotteries and Gaming Authority (NLGA) estimates that foreign gaming operators receive gross gaming revenues of between KR700m and KR1bn ($120m to $170m) a year from their Norwegian customers.

Cash Game Traffic Stats Forecast 10% Fall in New Jersey Online Poker Revenues

Too many factors are hampering efforts to grow online poker to its full potential. New Jersey online poker revenues rose 20% in February, compared to January, but traffic statistics for March suggest that reported revenues will be down, perhaps over 10%.
