NJ online poker rooms reported a combined $2.4 million in revenue in August, the latest figures from the NJ Gaming Control Board show.
While down on prior months, compared to the same month a year ago, the market is up 9%. The market has grown year-over-year in seven of the last eight months thanks to shared liquidity between PokerStars NJ and Michigan.
Indeed, PokerStars reclaimed the top spot in the market, reporting $870k for a market share of 36%. Its revenue is up 40% on the same month a year ago, a trend it has enjoyed every month since January.
The Caesars-licensed rooms, WSOP and 888, which enjoyed the top spot in June and July thanks to the live WSOP series held in Nevada each summer, fell back to the bottom last month. It reported revenue of $720k for a market share of 30%. Revenue is down 15% on August 2022.
Sat in the middle are the Borgata licensees — BetMGM, partypoker, and Borgata — with $807k in revenue and 34% of the market. They managed another month of growth year-on-year — their third in a row — of 11%, very healthy considering the stiff competition.
The NJ online casino market grew 18%, among the strongest performances of 2023. And those on the Resorts license — primarily DraftKings — stand out. In August, they leapfrogged Golden Nugget and Borgata to go from third to the top, only the second time in history it has led the market.
