The prominent US-facing offshore online poker network Winning Poker Network (WPN) has recently ramped up its efforts to keep the site free from bots and other fraud activities.

The offshore network, headlined by the flagship skin Americas Cardroom (ACR), has long been accused of running a network infested with bots and for not taking appropriate action against accused accounts.

That changed in 2019 when the network declared a full-fledged war against bots, by revealing the list of banned accounts and the amount seized and reimbursed to players. The network claims that they are the “first and only online poker room offering a transparent, verifiable reimbursement policy.”

While other poker networks also reveal details with regards to fraudulent accounts, most notably partypoker, WPN is the only major poker network that does not shy away from naming and shaming the offending player’s screenname on its website.

Late last year, in a bid to double down on its game safety and security, WPN appointed former PokerStars Team Pro Randy “Nanonoko” Lew as the network’s new security consultant and gameplay expert.

In my time, I’ve played against other bots on other sites and I also know how a human player will act which helps with determining whether a player is a bot or not.

Lew is considered to be one of the best-known and most successful multi-tabling cash game grinders and has multiple records under his belt, including achieving a rare milestone of surpassing the $1 million mark in cash game earnings in 2009. He also holds a Guinness World Record for playing the most number of hands in a short period of time.

Recently, under his watch, the network banned a further ten accounts for breaching the site’s rules, refunding over $200k. Since 2019, the site has reimbursed nearly $2 million to affected accounts.

PRO got the opportunity to ask Lew about his new role at the company, share more details on bot statistics, what steps are being taken to keep the site bot-free, whether they are seeing fewer offending accounts since his new role and more.
