The West Virginia online casino market hit an all-time high in August 2022, according to data reported by the WV Lottery and compiled by PRO.
Operators reported a combined $9.6 million in the month, up on $8.7 million reporting the month prior and exceeding the previous market high of $9.1 million set in March 2022.
Year-over-year, it represents growth of 90%. This upends the trend observed over prior months, when market growth had apparently been slowing down — 80% in May, 71% in June and 63% in July.
All three licensed operators had strong months. The market leader Greenbrier, whose license is used by BetMGM, FanDuel and Golden Nugget online casinos, remains on top with $5 million in reported revenue retaining a market share just over 50%.
But Charles Town-licensed online casinos — DraftKings and Pointsbet — are the standout in the data. The pair generated a combined $3.5 million — an all-time high — and it carved out a market share of 37%, its best since January.
The WV Lottery reports igaming data on a weekly basis. PRO uses a proprietary system to create accurate monthly revenue estimates to facilitate cross-state comparisons.
