Online poker revenue in the regulated French market was €103 million in Q2 2021. It represents a drop of 27.5% on the same quarter in 2020.

These numbers are robust. The online poker market is lapping a surge in online poker interest in 2020, with Q2 reaching an all-time high of €142 million, up more than double on 2019. A fall this year was to be expected.

Indeed, Q2 2021 was the fourth highest quarter in market history. Compared to two years ago, last quarter was up 63%, equivalent of a CAGR of 28%.

Supporting the idea of underlying double-digit growth, it comes off the back of a strong Q1 2021, up 22% year-over-year on 2020. Year to date, online poker operators in France have generated €223 million, just a shade (8%) off H1 2020’s €240 million—impressive considering what it laps. It is up almost double on H1 2019.

The slide from cash towards tournaments continues this year, with the latter now representing 75% of the market compared to 73% a year ago and 66% in 2019.

The igaming market overall reached a new high of €618 million in Q2, with sports betting continuing to drive this market growth. It now represents 68% of the market, the highest in market history, reaching €420 million.
